These six sets of pentacubes were used by Nob Yoshigahara and Yoshida
"Wolf" Shindo during a presentation at Gathering for Gardner Three in
1998 about minimal rectangular packing for like pentacubes. Wolf had
just discovered the 6x10x10 packing for the Z Pentacube which has
rotational and point symmetry.
The following sets are included:
Z (6x10x10) 120 pieces
T (3x10x10) 60 pieces
W (5x6x6) 36 pieces
F (5x6x6) 36 pieces
L (3x5x6) 18 pieces
Y (3x5x6) 18 pieces
The Y pentacubes are 2 cm per cube and glued up from individual cubes
(they are either pine or a soft wood similar to pine), while the others
are 1 cm per cube and have no glue joints. All of the these pieces are
cut from hardwood (Japanese Oak, I believe) and are very precise, well
made and look nice. They must have been cut by water jet or something
similar because there are no saw marks.
An instruction sheet from the presentation for the Z packing is included
that gives a layer-by-layer graphic packing method, plus three other
packings. Instructions for the other shapes are from Torsten Sillke's
web site. All will be shipped in a packed state.
